Formosa
Argentina's tropical frontier — Bañado La Estrella wetlands, indigenous communities, and the most subtropical climate in the country. True frontier territory for the adventurous.
About Formosa
Formosa is Argentina's least-visited and most frontier-like province. Bordering Paraguay and sitting at the country's subtropical extreme, it feels distinctly different from the rest of Argentina. The Bañado La Estrella — the country's largest wetland after Iberá — is a wildlife paradise that remains virtually unknown to international visitors. The province is home to significant indigenous populations and a culture that blends Argentine, Paraguayan, and Guaraní influences. For expats, Formosa is extremely niche — basic infrastructure, limited services, and intense heat. But it represents the most affordable living in Argentina and offers authentic frontier experiences found nowhere else in the country.
