Chaco
The 'City of Sculptures' (Resistencia) and the vast Chaco forest. Argentina's indigenous heartland with Qom, Wichí, and Mocoví communities maintaining ancient traditions.
About Chaco
Chaco is Argentina at its most raw and culturally complex. The capital Resistencia is known as the 'City of Sculptures' — over 600 sculptures dot the streets, making it an open-air museum. The province is home to significant indigenous populations (Qom, Wichí, Mocoví) whose cultures predate European arrival by millennia. The Gran Chaco forest — a vast, hot, and wild ecosystem — covers much of the province and is one of the most biodiverse dry forests in the world. El Impenetrable National Park protects some of the last pristine Chaco forest. For expats, this is frontier territory — infrastructure is basic, the heat is intense, and services are limited. But for anthropologists, wildlife enthusiasts, and those seeking truly off-grid experiences, Chaco offers something no other province can.
